職場体験学習をする中学生のみなさんへ
私が勤める会社は仕事を探しているという人や別の会社で働きたいという人に会社を紹介してあげたり、会社からも「働く人を探して」と頼まれたり働く人を紹介したり、派遣したりしている会社です。私勤める会社は「働く」ということをキーワードにして今言った以外のお仕事もたくさんしています。
例えば私は今日のように学校で「働くこと」に関係するお話をしたり、皆さんがこれから取組む職場体験や職場訪問などを学校の先生や色々な働く人たちと協力して小学生から皆さんと同じ中学生、そして高校生のお兄さん、お姉さんにも体験学習してもらう「Sapporo夢探究プロジェクト」という仕事をしています。ですから皆さんがこれから取組む職場体験について、皆さんがどのようなことに不安を持っているのか、皆さんの気持ちもちょっとだけ分かっている方かもしれません。
それからもう一つ私がしてきた仕事はキャリア・カウンセラーという仕事です。この中にキャリア・カウンセラーと言う仕事を聞いたことがある人はいますか？誰もいませんね。そうすると皆さんはキャリア・カウンセラーという仕事をしている人に、いま、初めて出会ったということになりますね。この仕事のように皆さんの知らない仕事って世の中にはたくさんあります。
職場体験はこういった皆さんの知らない仕事に出合うチャンスにもなります。せっかくですのでキャリア・カウンセラーのお仕事についてもお話をしますね。キャリア・カウンセラーというのは、仕事をしたいけどどうしたらよいのか分からないという人や仕事に関する悩みのある人の相談相手です。みなさんも何か悩みがあると先生やお友達に相談することでスッキリしたり良いアドバイスをもらえて良かった！という経験はありませんか？私は皆さんの先輩にあたる高校生や大学生、フリーターと呼ばれる人の悩みや相談を聞いてきました。すると多くの人が同じようなことで悩んでいるということが分かりました。どんな悩みが多いと思いますか？
それは「自分のやりたいことがわからない」「自分に合う仕事がわからない」というものです。皆さんの中にもひょっとして、将来どんなことがしたいのか分からないと悩んでいる人もいるかもしれませんね。そして、そういう人の話をよくよく聞いてみると「やりたいことが分からない自分ってダメな奴なんだ」と悩んでいる人が多いんです。誰かに相談しても「好きなことをすればいい」「自分のしたいことをすればいい」って言われてしまう。そうすると自分のしたいことがわからないことが、ダメなんだと感じてしまう人も多いんですよね。ひょっとしたら、皆さんの中にも「自分のやりたいことがわからない」自分ってダメな奴なんじゃないかと思っていたりする人もこの中にはいるかもしれません。
私はそんな「自分のやりたいことがわからない」という人には、「大丈夫！」といつも声をかけています。
何故大丈夫かというと、やりたいことに出会っていないだけだし、やったことがないから、自分ができるかどうか分からないだけだからだと思っているからです。
例えば、この中にもスポーツ選手になりたいという人もいるかもしれませんが、いまメジャーリーグで活躍している松井選手はオギャーと生まれてすぐ、野球選手になりたいと思ったと思いますか？皆さんのまわりにいる先生もオギャーと生まれてすぐ、先生になりたいと思ったと思いますか？
きっと「野球」や「先生」に出合ったんです。松井選手は野球に出会って、野球が好きになって一生懸命練習したんだと思います。はじめから大リーガーになろうとは思っていないはずです。高校野球で活躍できるように頑張って、日本のプロ野球でも頑張ったから大リーグに行きたいと思ったと思うのです。
これは、多くの人に共通することではないかと思います。私がキャリア・カウンセラーという人に出会ったのは３６歳の頃でした。それまでこんな仕事があるなんて知りませんでした。やりたいことや、できることって自分の中をいくら探しても見つけることは難しいと思います。自分の中を探すより、自分の外にあるきっかけや出会いが大切なんです。では、その」きっかけはどこにあるのか？実はいま皆さんが学校で勉強していることも大切な「きっかけ」の一つです。
中学生になって英語を勉強してみたら、英語が面白くて将来英語を活かした職業につきたいと思っている人はいませんか？それから、友達との会話や友達の趣味に影響されたという人もこの中にはいるかもしれませんね。この前のサッカーのワールドカップの後、引退を表明した中田英寿選手は８歳の時に友達に誘われてサッカーをしたのがサッカーとの出会いだったそうです。学校の中や友達との付き合いの中では、自分ではあまり興味がなかったり関心が無いことでもやらなきゃいけないことって結構ありますよね。例えば今日の私の話を聞くことだって「嫌だなー」と思っていた人は必ずいるはずです。私が中学生の頃はそういう生徒でした（笑）でも｢嫌だなー｣と思っていても、やってみると意外に面白かったという経験は誰にでもあるのではないでしょうか？実は仕事もそんなことが多いのです。やってみると自分に合っていたり、面白かったりすることがあります。学校から帰ったらお父さんやお母さんなど、皆さんのまわりの大人に聞いてみてください。「どうして今の仕事についたの？」って。「たまたま」だとか「偶然今の会社に入社した」とか、何かの出会いがあるはずです。やりたいことや自分合うことって、出会いであったりやってみたら自分に合っていたという話しが聞けるはずです。
これから皆さんは職場体験が待っています。皆さん全員が自分の興味あるところで仕事の体験が出来なくて「つまんないなぁ」と思っている人もいるはずですが、そういう人こそチャンスだと思ってこの職場体験学習に積極的に取組んでみてください。「やってみたら面白かった」ということや新しい自分の可能性を発見できるかもしれません。もちろん行きたいところで体験できる人も一生懸命に取組んでください。先ほどの松井選手は野球に出会った後に相当の努力をして今の松井選手があるのです。好きなこと、やりたいことを見つけた後の努力が大切です。一生懸命やってはじめて自分が関心あることや興味のあることの本当の姿が見えてくると思います。保育園で体験学習をする人もいると思います。「子どもが嫌い」という保育師の先生はいませんが「好き」なだけではなれないはずです。どんなことが大変なのか一生懸命に取組まないと分かりません。それに一生懸命にやらないと仕事は任せてもらえません。せっかくのチャンスです。どこに行っても一生懸命に取組んで欲しいと思います。そうしたら自分のことや将来の進路のことについてのヒントをきっと手に入れることができます。
最後に一つだけ。成功の反対語は失敗ではなくて「何もしないこと」です。失敗は何かをしたから失敗ができるんです。何もしなければ失敗もできません。一番最初にお話したようにやりたいことは自分の中を探しても見つけることは難しい。やりたいことは自分の外側にあるはずです。何もしなければ出会いもやってみたら面白かったということも経験できません。失敗はOKです！何かをした証拠です。皆さんにはちょっとだけ勇気を振り絞って色々なことに積極的にチャレンジして欲しいと思っています。そのきっかけが職場体験学習なのかもしれませんね！
